Dr. Yayin Fang is a Professor in Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the Howard University, College of Medicine. She is the HUMAA Endowed Founder’s Chair in Basic Science (2015 -2018). She received her MS and Ph.D. degrees, both in Physical Chemistry, from Nankai University, China in 1998 and 2001 respectively. She finished her postdoctoral training with Prof. Eric C. Long and Kenny B. Lipkowitz of Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis, focusing on theoretical studies on DNA recognition by metallopeptides (2001-2004), and with Prof A. Keith Dunker of the Indiana University, School of Medicine, focusing on relationships between disordered proteins and alternative splicing (2004-2005). She joined the RCMI program at Howard University in 2005. She started her tenure-track assistant professor position at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the Howard University, College of Medicine in 2012, and received her tenure in 2016. In 2020 she was promoted to the rank of full professor. She has a broad interest in computational approaches on rational drug/material design. As PI, she has been funded by NSF on “RUI-Examination of Molecular Recognition of Amino Acid Based Macromolecular Assembles”, and by Office of Naval Research on “Understanding DNA Cleavage with Organometallic Molecules”. As Co-PI, she has been funded by NSF on “HDR DSC: Collaborative Research: Enrich the Data Science Training of STEM”. The results of her research have been published in over 50 peer-reviewed articles and 3 book chapters.
