Biography
Mrs. Benita King is an accomplished and versatile leader with a distinguished career at Howard University, showcasing her expertise in operations, program management, and strategic planning. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a Minor in Psychology (BSCJ), a Master of Science in Management with a specialization in Project Management (MiM), and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), all from the University of Maryland.
Throughout her tenure at Howard University, Benita has excelled in various leadership roles, significantly contributing to the institution's operational and strategic success. Her career highlights include her current role as the Director of Operations for the College of Arts and Sciences (COAS), where she oversees day-to-day operations, administrative training and professional development, and program/project management for the largest college at the university. In this capacity, she has successfully implemented new programs and initiatives, managed cross-functional teams, and provided strategic guidance and project management to the college. Her efforts have led to enhanced scalability, agility, and efficiency within the college.
Before her current position, she served as the Executive Assistant/Program Manager at the College of Arts and Sciences. In this role, she acted as a liaison, developed strategic business relationships with senior leadership, and managed the Dean's schedule. Her contributions included planning and preparing for Board of Visitors meetings, analyzing and improving office processes, and facilitating the resolution of issues elevated to the Dean’s office.
Mrs. King also played a critical role as the Project Coordinator for the Middle States Institutional Accreditation Self-Study at Howard University. Her responsibilities included providing support and interpretive guidance on accreditation standards, evaluating institutional documentation, and assisting with all aspects of the accreditation process.
