Biography
Terri L. Burton serves as Associate Vice President for Development Strategy and Operations at Howard University, where she leads strategic and operational functions across advancement—including fundraising operations, alumni and donor engagement, communications, annual giving, stewardship, and university events. A proud graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana, Terri brings over 20 years of experience advancing mission-driven institutions and a deep commitment to the legacy and future of HBCUs. Prior to joining Howard, she held senior advancement roles at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture and The National WWII Museum, where she led national campaigns, launched innovative donor experiences, and guided teams to raise over $100 million. Known for her inclusive, data-informed approach to philanthropy, Terri is a frequent speaker on nonprofit strategy, leadership, and donor experience.
