Biography

Shakira Jarvis, MPH (she| her) is the Director of the Office of Interpersonal Violence Prevention (IVPP) at Howard University. IVPP supports the quality of life of the Howard University community by providing support, advocacy, and education that enhance knowledge and promote behavior change related to the prevention of sexual assault and harassment, stalking, and domestic/ intimate partner violence. She has spent the last 10+ years in higher education student affairs supporting residential life, student/campus life, and University Counseling before her current work in violence prevention. She is passionate about upholding supportive learning environments, and the promotion of healthy behavior, especially at MSI as these institutions represent the most consistent pipeline of diverse minority researchers, providers, and social change agents in the world today. 

She is an alum of Howard University’s College of Arts and Sciences (B.S. ’14) and has a Master of Public Health (MPH), concentration in Community-Orientated Primary Care from the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health. She is currently at GWU Milken Institute School of Public Health working towards a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH). Her areas of interest are Health Behavior, Adolescent, College, and Community Health Systems, Comprehensive/ Quality Sexuality, Reproductive, and Healthy Relationship Education/ Access for Youth/ Young People.
