Biography
Sam Hopkins received his PhD in mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2018, after doing his undergraduate studies at Reed College. From 2018 to 2021 he was a postdoc at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. He joined the Howard mathematics department as an assistant professor in 2021. He was promoted to an associate professor with tenure in 2025, and since January 2026 has been the director of undergraduate studies in the Howard math department. His area of expertise is algebraic and enumerative combinatorics.
