Biography

Mr. Burke is a Howard University Program Manager, Adjunct Faculty member and Associate Director of the Cybersecurity Education and Research Center (CERC). His current responsibilities include teaching cybersecurity courses, student programs, curriculum development, research grants and community outreach.   He has over 30 years of prior experience in software development, customer engagements, and cybersecurity programs with IBM. He has a BA from Providence College and an MBA from the University of Maryland College Park .   His professional certifications include Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP), AWS Cloud Solution Architect and Project Management Professional (PMP).

Learn the fundamental concepts of contemporary information systems security (cybersecurity) to include the associated strategic technologies, risks, challenges, resources, techniques, trends and counter measures.  Topics of study include IT fundamentals review, security concepts, principles, threats intelligence, vulnerability analysis, cyber attacks, cryptography, identity & authentication, secure software development, application security, incident response, and other security mechanisms.

Learn how the concepts are applied to identify and solve real-world problems by participating in a series of hands-on exercises and project assignments.

Learn the fundamental principles of internet and network security found in computer systems, networks, and cloud architectures.  Topics include Network Fundamentals, Web Concepts, Infrastructure Security, Wireless and Intrusion Detection & Network Security.  Learn how the concepts are applied to solve real-world problems by participating in a series of hands-on exercises.
