Biography

Assistant Professor Dr. Kendall Moody's research examines the experiences of individuals with chronic illness. His current research seeks to uncover the relationship between biopsychosocial variables (e.g., disease severity, family stress, income, and stigma) and the wellbeing of persons diagnosed with sickle cell disease, drawing upon relevant social work theories. Dr. Moody uses quantitative methods to research and write about implications for social work research, practice, and policy as it relates to social work in the medical setting.Dr. Moody’s research on the health of individuals with sickle cell disease has been published in journals such as the Journal of Pediatric Psychology and Social Work in Public Health. In partnership with the Sickle Cell Association of the National Capital Area, Inc., Dr. Moody facilitates a monthly psychoeducational support group for children diagnosed with sickle cell disease. He has presented at numerous conferences and continues to serve as a reviewer for the Journal of Nephrology Social Work.Before coming to Howard, Dr. Moody worked as a licensed clinical social worker at a children’s hospital in Southeastern Virginia and was a doctoral fellow with the Council on Social Work Education Minority Fellowship Program. He holds a BA in Psychology along with an MSW and a PhD in Social Work from Norfolk State University.
