Biography

Dr. Katherine Manuel is a Registered Dietitian, Assistant Professor, and the Director of the Coordinated Program in Dietetics in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Howard University.  Dr. Manuel obtained her Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences at Howard University, and holds a Graduate Certificate in Exercise Prescription from the University of Connecticut. In addition to her current position, she has served the Howard University Community in various other roles, including Clinical Dietitian, and more recently, Clinical Nutrition Manager at the University’s acute-care facility, Howard University Hospital.  She has also held academic positions at Prince George’s Community College and the University of the District of Columbia. Dr. Manuel has been cited in print media and has been featured on radio and television news segments discussing various topics. She holds Certificates of Training in Adult Weight Management, and her research is focused on prevention and treatment of obesity and its complications, with an emphasis on nutrition competencies of health care professionals, and the role of exercsie in individuals undergoing bariatric surgery.
