Biography
Patricia Thomas (Master Instructor & Rehearsal Director) came to Howard University in 1996 with 26 years of teaching and performing experience from some of the most illustrious and renowned institutions and dance companies in the world. Her artistic talent and ability flourished under the mentorship of such Master Artists, teachers and performers, including Yuriko, Mary Hinkson, Bertram Ross, Thelma Hill, Charles Moore, Joyce Trisler, Jimmy Truitte, Nat Horn, Lavinia Williams, Jean-León Destiné, Madame Darvash and Alfredo Corvino. She has studied The Martha Graham Technique at The Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance; American Jazz, Horton Technique, Mary Anthony Technique, The Dunham Technique, and ballet. Thomas has used her considerable experience and expertise to guide numerous dance companies, serving in the capacity of Rehearsal Director and Company Teacher at the Emi Hatano Dance Theatre, Sega-Ya-Gaku in Tokyo, Japan, rehearsal director, dancer, and company teacher for the Peter Goss Compagnie de Danse, in Paris, France. She served as Dance Captain for The King and I, Uris Theatre Broadway and International tour, and served as rehearsal director for numerous video projects in association with Geffen Enterprises. For 40 years, Thomas has served as the company teacher for the Philadelphia Dance Company (PHILADANCO). She continues to serve as a guest teacher to professional dance companies nationally and internationally.
