Biography
Dr. Mohsen Mosleh is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Howard University. He received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
He instituted and directed the Howard University I-RISE Program in 2019 with a grant from the Department of Education for providing paid research opportunities to freshmen and sophomores in STEM and inroads to internship and career opportunities. During 2019-2024, approximately 130 students in 11 STEM disciplines participated in the I-RISE Program. Participating students exhibited enhanced retention, improved 4-year graduation rate, and attained prestigious scholarships and internships.
He also established and directed the Howard University I-LEAD Program in 2023 with a grant from the Department of Education for training STEM students in leadership skills and education. The inception of the program is motivated by the extreme underrepresentation (<<1%) of Blacks/African Americans and Women in the STEM leadership roles. During 2023-2024, approximately 33 students in 9 STEM disciplines participated in and completed the I- LEAD Program.
Dr. Mosleh was recognized by the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring (PAESMEM) from President Joseph R. Biden in 2022 (https://thedig.howard.edu/all-stories/howard-university-engineering-professor-mohsen-mosleh-recognized-excellence-stem-mentoring) and by the Student Choice Professor Award from the Student Council of the College of Engineering and Architecture at Howard University in 2024. He was also recognized by the Faculty Exemplar Medal from the Graduate School at Howard University in 2018.
His disciplinary research focuses on Nanofluids, Surface Engineering, and Additive and Subtractive Manufacturing.
