Biography
Mark A. Bartley, is an Associate Professor of Design in the Department of Art at Howard University where he teaches Magazine and Newspaper Design, Reproduction and Technique, Introduction to Digital Design, and Illustration. He is currently developing a Digital Asset Management course that focuses on the practical application and leveraging of best practices and technology in the management and usage of digital assets in various industries and in higher education. Research interests include, Digital Asset Management application and practices and the application of nanotechnology in print and design.
As a design practitioner, he has held an informational graphics specialist position atUSA Today and graphics director positions at The Salinas Californian, The Reno Gazzette-Journal (Gannett newspapers) and director of graphics and production at CMA Publishing, publishers of Diverse: Issues in Higher Education (formerly Black Issues in Higher Education) and Black Issues Book Review. He currently functions as a design consultant on freelance projects and is responsible for the design and production of Community College Week (www.ccweek.com), a bi-weekly 24-page higher-education-related tabloid newspaper. He has won several awards for informational graphics, illustrations and page design in the newspaper and magazine design arenas.
