Howard University
Marchon Jackson has over two decades of sponsored research experience in higher education and industry. He has been recognized for his leadership roles at prominent organizations throughout his career. Before joining Howard University, Marchon served as the Assistant Vice President at the University of Maryland. He oversaw the university’s $700 million research post-award operations, including billing and reporting, financial compliance, F&A/service center/fringe rate development, effort reporting, account setup, and university-wide training. His time at this institution was marked by the successful implementation of training modules, the development and revision of compliance policies, and the establishment of efficient post-award administration processes to oversee the growth of approximately $300 million in the research enterprise during his tenure. Before this position at UMD, Marchon also served as the Director of Finance and Administration for UMD’s University Affiliated Research Center. At the UARC, Marchon was instrumental in strategic financial planning, managing the pre-and post-award functions, and leading the administrative needs of the center of 100 employees with a $25M annual budget.
Before the University of Maryland, Marchon worked in various industries, all having touch points with research, accounting, and the federal government. Throughout his professional journey at these organizations, Marchon has consistently stood out as a problem solver. His leadership has been underscored by a commitment to team building and fostering innovation, propelling teams to efficiency and peak performance.
Currently, Marchon is on the board of the Society of Research Administrators International and is an active member. In addition, he is a presenter for the National Council of University Research Administrators, a member of the Council on Government Relations, and a member of the Federal Demonstration Partnership, which are all highly active organizations that bring collaboration and innovation to the national research space.
