Lauren R. Jackson is a legacy-focused attorney who has a passion for developing social engineers. She currently serves as the Assistant Dean of Career Services at Howard University School of Law.
Her legal training began as a student, now graduate, of the historic Howard University School of Law. In addition to her Juris Doctor, she obtained a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Master’s in Public Administration from Seton Hall University. Currently, she is pursuing a Master’s in Divinity at the Howard University School of Divinity.
Jackson has gained valuable experience throughout her career through her work with the Human Services Council of New York City, the New York State Department of Human and Civil Rights, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. She has also had the opportunity to gain judicial insight through her judicial externship with the District Court of the District of Columbia for the Honorable Ketanji Brown Jackson (now Supreme Court Justice) and clerkship with New Jersey Superior Court for the Honorable Magali M. Francois. Her legal training was advanced as an associate with McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter, LLP, and now back at Howard.
Within the career and professional development landscape, Jackson is a sought after expert as it pertains to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, the importance of HBCU law school career pipelines, and other topics related to creating a holistic career journey. She is an active member of the Washington Area Legal Recruitment Administrators Association (WALRAA) where she serves as a member of the diversity committee. Additionally, she has several leadership roles with the National Association for Law Placement, such as Co-Chair for the National Law School Career Chiefs group, Chair of the HBCU Pipeline Project, and Co-Chair of the Black/African American Affinity group. Jackson also advises the organization as a member of the National DEI Steering Committee.
Jackson is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Epsilon Sigma Iota Legal Sorority, Inc. and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women - D.C. Metropolitan Chapter. She also serves on the board of the Howard University School of Law International Alumni Association. She is also the founder of Instilling My Ability to Naturally Embrace Excellence, Inc. (I.M.A.N.E.E.), a 501(c)3 dedicated to the leadership development of girls of color.
