Biography

I have been working at Howard for almost 15 years. I started in 2010 as a web developer in ETS. In 2016 the web team moved to the Office of University Communications and he began managing the team, which eventually became the UX & Web Strategy Team. Since that time, the UXWS team built a cloud-based web system and led the rebuild of over 90 University sites within that environment. To maximize efficiency, the system is centralized and highly integrated. For example, one of its features is content distribution across sites from some of the ”enterprise” properties, including the University’s award-winning story-telling sites, The Dig and Howard Magazine, as well as the University’s staff/faculty Profiles site. 

In my role as AVP of Web Innovation & Strategy, I help the University web ecosystem’s leverage emergent and cutting edge web-related technologies, such as A.I.-based tools. I am an inaugural member of Howard’s recently formed Presidential AI Council, which will also support the University’s responsible and equitable A.I. adoption more broadly. I am also one of the hosts of Howard’s HU2U podcast. In its 2nd season, he hosted a 2-part series entitled Changing the ADHD Narrative From Deficit to Superpower, as well as most recently a 3-part mini-series entitled “The GenAI Revolution: Navigating the Potential & Peril for Howard University & Our Communities”; episode one, What is GenAI and Why is it Biased?, is available now.

I attended UNC at Chapel Hill for my bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication, and later obtained a Master’s degree and PhD from Howard’s department of psychology. My master’s and doctoral research focused on the impact of embracing Africana heritage on the cultural and racial identity of Black youth and how this is related to their learning and academic outcomes; he found a strong and positive cultural identity, as well as developing a critical consciousness, supports academic success. I am interested in further exploring how this relationship can be optimized with digital tools, as well as in helping Black youth leverage emergent technology in developmentally healthy ways (see Howard Magazine article: Trying to raise critically conscious children in the age of digital technology and information battles? It’s actually possible.)

I was recently named an Afrotech Future 50 “Corporate Catalyst”. I'm also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, Inc.
