Biography

Dr. Kweli Zukeri has worked at Howard University for 15 years, beginning as a web developer and now serving as Asst. VP of Web Innovation & Strategy in the Office of University Communications. He led the development of a centralized, cloud-based web system that supports over 90 redesigned University sites and enables seamless content distribution across key platforms. He became an alum of the University along the way completing his graduate work in developmental psychology.

In his current role, Dr. Kweli advances Howard’s use of emerging AI-powered web technologies, including development of a culturally-relevant agent to support internal business functions. He is a founding member of the Presidential AI Council, helping guide the University’s responsible and equitable AI adoption, governance, and strategy. He also hosted and co-produced the University podcast mini-series The GenAI Revolution: Navigating the Potential & Peril for Howard University & Our Communities.

Dr. Kweli’s research interests sit at the intersection of use of technology and media, identity and psychological development, and social justice. One of his current areas of focus is on developing a protective framework to guide youth engagement with generative AI such that they strengthen critical consciousness and critical AI literacy, as opposed to weakening critical thinking via cognitive offloading.
