Biography
Dr. Kebreten Manaye is a distinguished neuroscientist and the Chair of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Howard University. Recognized for her pioneering research on the mechanisms underlying neurological and neurodegenerative diseases associated with brain aging in human and animal models.
As Principal Investigator at NeuroTech Harbor, Dr. Manaye leads the innovative
Pathways program, which is dedicated to fostering a new generation of
neurotechnology innovators from underrepresented communities. Her commitment to increasing diversity within STEM fields is evident in her previous role as Director of Graduate Studies, where she successfully implemented strategies aimed at enhancing access to high-quality academic programs for minority students. Dr. Manaye’s outreach and educational initiatives are instrumental in promoting equity and accessibility within the rapidly evolving neurotechnology sector.
In addition to her research and advocacy efforts, Dr. Manaye has established herself as a prominent mentor, guiding students and early-career scientists while promoting an inclusive environment in medical education. Her leadership was further recognized in 2023, to serve as the President of the Association of Chairs of Physiology Departments, marking a significant milestone in the field.
