Biography
In 2003, after a flourishing career in Hospitality Management, Ms. Joyce Brooks accepted a position with the HU Dept. of Public Safety. In her temporary position within the Department, the Chief of Police noted her sincere interest in promoting the safety of the students, staff and faculty of the University. Ms. Brooks enrolled in the Crime Prevention Institute of Louisville, KY and became the Department’s first Certified Crime Prevention Specialist. Ms. Brooks is also certified by the National Crime Prevention Council.
Ms. Brooks has received additional training from various entities and represents Howard University at Law Enforcement, Safety Awareness and Crime Prevention conferences throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. In her role as Crime Prevention Specialist, she works closely with the MPD 3rd District, the Ward 2 Drug Free Community Coalition, Drug Free World and various other agencies.
Ms. Brooks is a third generation Washingtonian, who wholeheartedly believes in the mantra “To Increase Your Personal Safety, Take Your Safety Personal”. She remains active on campus, always informing students, staff, faculty, parents and visitors about the Department’s commitment to enhance the safety and quality of life for all.
