John Harris III is an instructor of Technical Writing-Pre Professional. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and a Master of Arts in Organizational Communications, both from Bowie State University. Prof. Harris carries with him over a quarter century of professional sports/news writing and editing experience in the newspaper industry, which includes positions at The Baltimore Sun, Post-Newsweek Inc., and The Fort Myers News-Press. He also has experience in public relations, including a year-long stint as Director of Communications/Editor-In-Chief of The Sphinx Magazine for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. In addition to his previous organizational positions, Prof. Harris is also a freelance book editor and is currently writing an untitled, non-fiction, HBCU sports history book.
While at Howard, he has served on the English Department’s First-Year Writing Program committee, and is currently a member of the Howard Univ./Google African American Vernacular English Quality Control Team with Project Elevate Black Voices. This project is a first-of-its-kind collaboration to build a high-quality African-American English (AAE) speech dataset.
