Biography
Dr. Wourman is an assistant professor of English where she teaches a range of courses from technical writing, visual rhetoric, and design. Her research explores the ways culture and language shifts between communities, which is reflected in all modes of communication from print, digital, and multimedia. Prior to joining Howard, she worked at James Madison University where she developed and taught courses on cultural rhetoric, digital humanities, and technical communication and was awarded the Provost's award for excellence in research and scholarship.
She has published and co-edited articles in several scholarly journals such as Kairos, Technical Communication Quarterly, and The Journal of African American Studies. Her collaborative work on the NCTE/CCCC Black Technical and Professional Communication task-force is a leading resource on the intersections of Black cultural practices in technical communication.
Dr. Wourman received her Ph.D. from Michigan State University's Rhetoric and Writing program.
