Biography
Erica Middleton is a committed and community-oriented servant leader with a passion for leading purpose-driven, people-centered programs, developing student leaders, and conducting research. She contributes to the design, coordination, and execution of a wide range of faith-based, service-driven, justice-oriented, and wellness programs in the Office of the Dean of the Chapel at Howard University. Erica contributes to the strategic development of programs by translating vision into actionable plans, aligning goals with resources, coordinating logistics, and guiding student leaders to deliver impactful, values-based initiatives.
She advises the Howard University Coalition for Good Trouble and the Radical Reflections Book Club, offering mentorship, leadership development, and program-building support. Erica is also an active member of the HU Wellness Initiative and the Chapel’s mindfulness instruction team, where she has taught Introduction to Mindfulness classes and lead sessions on Building Better Boundaries, Battling Burnout and Looking Beyond, and Finding Peace in Community through Mindfulness.
Her leadership in Chapel programming includes co-creating and moderating the Communal Conversations series, moderating the 2021 HBCU Interfaith Virtual Conference, serving as a site advisor for the Howard University Alternative Spring Break program, and launching the Did You Know Chapel and Get to Know US social media campaigns.
Erica is a graduate of Towson University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sociology-Anthropology. While there, she was recognized for her leadership as an advocate, president, and peer mentor. She also holds a Master of Arts in Religious Studies with a concentration in Ethics and Social Justice from the Howard University School of Divinity. During her time at Howard, Erica served as the Evans E. Crawford Graduate Assistant for Dean Bernard L. Richardson at the historic Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel and as a research assistant to Dr. Kenyatta Gilbert, Dean of the School of Divinity. Erica has additional research experience as a Research Associate at the Judge Alexander Williams Center for Education, Justice, and Ethics, where she focused on public policy research and developed programmatic solutions to address systemic challenges in disadvantaged communities. She is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), further enhancing her ability to manage and execute complex programs effectively.
Erica is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., a lifelong resident of gorgeous Prince George’s County, MD, and dog owner of Sassy Techno.
