Biography
Erica Middleton is a committed and community-oriented servant leader with a passion for student leadership development, social justice, and research. As an Assistant Program Coordinator, she provides creative input toward strategizing, planning, and executing various faith, service, justice, and wellness-related programs in the Office of the Dean of the Chapel.
She currently serves as the advisor for the Howard University Chapel Assistants, the Howard University Coalition for Good Trouble, and the Radical Reflections Book Club, where she provides student organizations with support, assistance in program development, and leadership development. Ms. Middleton is a part of the HU Wellness Initiative and serves on the Chapel’s team of mindfulness instructors where she has taught Introduction to Mindfulness courses and has done sessions on topics such as Building Better Boundaries, Battling Burnout and Looking Beyond, and Finding Peace in Community through Mindfulness. Ms. Middleton has also led and participated in a variety of Chapel programming including co-creator and panel moderator of the Communal Conversations series, moderator at the 2021 HBCU Interfaith Virtual Conference, creator of the Did You Know Chapel social media campaign, and an HU Alternative Spring Break site advisor.
She is a graduate of Towson University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Sociology-Anthropology. At Towson, she served as an advocate, president, and peer mentor, that the University recognized for her student leadership. She is also a graduate of the Howard University School of Divinity where she received her Master of Arts in Religious Studies with a concentration in Ethics and Social Justice. While at Howard she had the honor to serve as the Evans E. Crawford graduate assistant for Dean Bernard L. Richardson at the historic Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel. She also served as a research assistant for Dr. Kenyatta Gilbert, Dean of the Howard University School of Divinity. She also has prior experience in research, serving as a research associate at the Judge Alexander Williams Center for Education, Justice, and Ethics, where she conducted public policy research and developed evidence-based programmatic solutions to the systemic challenges impacting disadvantaged communities.
Ms. Middleton is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., a lifelong resident of gorgeous Prince George’s County, MD, and dog owner of Sassy Techno.
