Annika Dunkel-Pinillos (she/her/hers)

Biography

Annika Dunkel-Pinillos was born in a medieval town in Thuringia, Germany. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Pedagogy of Childhood and English Language and Literature as well as her Master’s Degree in Elementary School Education and English from the University of Erfurt. Afterwards, Annika Dunkel-Pinillos completed the Second State Examination before the Educational Board of Saxony, Germany, to become a licensed elementary school teacher in Germany. After working with students of different ages, ethnicities and from all kinds of socio-economic backgrounds in many international settings, she pursued a second Master’s Degree in German as a Foreign Language/German as a Second Language, which she successfully completed in 2018.

Before joining the Department of World Languages and Cultures at Howard University in 2023, Annika Dunkel-Pinillos held a full-time teaching position as lecturer of German at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has taught beginning and intermediate German language classes as well as courses on German literature in English translation.

German 001

German 001 is the first course of the four semester course series. German I introduces the students to the 4 basic language communication skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking). In doing so the course focuses on practical language skills, vocabulary building, everyday situations, and culture.
