Anna Mekombo MWALAGHO

Biography

Anna Mekombo Mwalagho is the Swahili Language and Culture Lecturer at the Department of World Languages and Culture, Howard University. She was born in Nairobi, Kenya. She received her bachelor’s degree in Economic and sociology at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. She received a Master of Fine Art in Theater at Towson University. Ms. Mwalagho is also a full-time performing artist- a poet, singer, songwriter, actress, comedian, and storyteller. Her academic emphasis includes Swahili language, culture, and literature. She has been a language instructor in the DMV area for over fifteen years, teaching Swahili to diplomats, government officials, and  to different for profit and non-profit business entities. She also runs a Swahili online school teaching children and adults Kiswahili through her organization Swahili Halisi International Language School.
