Biography

Ania Ueno is the Communications Director at the Center for African Studies at Howard University, where she leads strategic communications, digital content, and brand storytelling to advance the Center’s academic, cultural, and global presence. She holds an M.A. in African Studies from Howard University. With over 15 years of experience in higher education and the nonprofit sector, she specializes in content strategy, digital communications, and audience engagement.

At Howard, Ania drives high-impact communications initiatives that strengthen institutional visibility and support the university’s expanding international focus. She leads the promotion of the Gold Road Interactive Map Project, which has generated nearly 200,000 views since its launch, and advises departments and affiliated initiatives on communication strategy to ensure alignment with broader institutional goals. She is also involved in leading communications for the International Model African Union (IMAU) as the program transitions to Howard University.

Her background includes leadership in program operations and cross-functional collaboration, including prior experience as Operations Director at a national nonprofit supporting women’s health initiatives across the United States.

Ania brings a global perspective shaped by experience across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. She has contributed for over a decade to the Children’s Africana Book Awards, reflecting her ongoing commitment to culturally grounded storytelling and youth engagement.
