Ania Ueno is a senior communications strategist and digital storyteller with 15+ years of experience in the education and nonprofit sectors. Her expertise spans digital content creation, media strategy, outreach, program management, event planning, and nonprofit operations. With a passion for storytelling that educates, inspires, and mobilizes, she crafts mission-driven content that addresses social issues and builds community.
Ania currently serves as the Communications and Media Manager at the Center for African Studies at Howard University, where she earned her M.A. in African Studies. She also leads the branding and visibility campaign for Howard’s new Office of Global and Diaspora Engagement (OGDE) under the Office of the President—elevating the university’s global presence through strategic communications.
Previously, she served as Operations Director at a national nonprofit, where she led cross-functional teams, managed systems and programming, and built communication infrastructure to support women’s health initiatives across the U.S.
Fluent in cross-cultural communication, her work is shaped by an uncommon blend of creative vision, technical fluency, and international experience, having worked, studied, and traveled across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Ania has served on the planning committee for the Children's Africana Book Awards for nearly a decade and most recently contributed to the organizing team for the international Zeleza Conference at Howard University.
When not behind a screen or at an event, Ania trains capoeira—an Afro-Brazilian martial art that reflects her love for rhythm, movement, and cultural connection.
