Biography
Mrs. Akilah Adams started at Howard University as the Clery Act Compliance and Accreditation Officer on January 6, 2020. Mrs. Adams is an industry expert with more than 20 years of successful experience in the private security industry specializing in Commercial Real Estate, Higher Education and Manufacturing security services, along with Federal and State government industry. Mrs. Adams has served in a variety of roles within the contract security industry to include Area Account Manager, Client Portfolio Manager, Client Value Manager, Operations Manager and Senior Account Manager. She worked directly with the (SEC) Securities and Exchange Commission, (API) American Petroleum Institute, Amtrak, University of Mary Washington and Hershey's overseeing their building facilities security management. Mrs. Adams expertise involves providing superior customer support and team management. She has a proven track record of driving revenue and profit growth. Mrs. Adams is highly skilled in customer service, safety and security, risk management, operations management, contractual compliance, multi-million dollar budgeting, policy development, workers compensation investigations, OSHA recordkeeping, audits and systems integration.
Mrs. Adams began her career in safety and security working for Prince William County Government - Social Services at the Juvenile Detention Facility, it is here where she fell in love with being a servant to others. She is most fulfilled when helping people to grow both professionally and personally. Her vision and ability to nurture relationships lead to the success and career advancement of many security professionals.
Mrs. Adams studied Administration of Justice at Northern Virginia Community College and Business at Tidewater Community College. She has her certification in Law Enforcement Accreditation Management from CALEA and completed Clery Act Compliance training. She has successfully completed numerous professional development courses to include COVID-19 for Law Enforcement, Active Shooter, Workplace Violence, Shelter in Place, Fire Safety & Emergency Response, Suicide Awareness & Prevention, FEMA and OSHA Recordkeeping & Reporting.
Akilah is an active member of several industry association’s: ASIS International (National Capital Region), ASIS Women’s in Security and InfraGard (National Capital Region).
