Adora Okogbule-Wonodi

Biography

Adora Okogbule-Wonodi, MBBS, received her undergraduate degree in Physiology and her medical degree from the College of Medicine, University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Howard University Hospital and a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics & Child Health at Howard University College of Medicine.

Dr. Okogbule-Wonodi works in the Howard University Hospital Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). She collaboratively leads a team of health care professionals to provide safe and evidenced-based care to sick newborns. She coordinates patient care with other physicians and ancillary services. She participates in the medical education of health care students and resident physicians.

Dr. Okogbule-Wonodi academic interests include the developing gastrointestinal innate immune system and intestinal barrier as it relates to necrotizing enterocolitis, a disease that predominantly affects preterm infants. She has several relevant publications in the medical literature. Her other interests include quality improvement efforts that facilitate patient safety and improved outcomes.

Dr. Okogbule-Wonodi is a member of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine, a global organization of medical doctors dedicated to educating and empowering health professionals to support and manage breastfeeding, lactation and human milk feeding. She has authored protocols that provide guidance in breastfeeding and lactation related problems. She is the medical director of the hospital Breastfeeding, Lactation Education & Support Services (BLESS) Committee that promotes, protects and supports breastfeeding and lactation for patients, staff and community.
