Dave Stroup, MFA

Biography

Professor Stroup received his B.A. in Economics from Georgetown University and an M.F.A. in Nonfiction Creative Writing from George Mason University. Prior to joining the faculty at Howard University, Professor Stroup worked for more than a decade in Democratic and progressive politics. In 2014, he served as Digital Director for Senator Mark Warner (D-Va.) and in 2019 as Email Director for Governor John Bel Edwards (D-La.). He has worked as a local journalist, hardware store manager, bar doorman, and digital strategist. Professor Stroup's writing has been featured on Eater, DCist, Entropy Magazine, The Morning News, Longreads, Milk Street Radio, and elsewhere. He was a 2019 James Beard Foundation Award finalist for journalism.
