Kari Miller

Biography

Dr. Kari Miller has served as the Director of Honors and Scholar Development in the Office of Undergraduate Studies at Howard University since 2014. Prior to joining Howard, she worked in higher education administration for several years in global program management and international education, managing university study abroad programming at Dickinson College, George Washington University and American University. In 2009, she earned a Ph.D. in African Studies at Howard where her dissertation focused on Representations of Black South African Women in the Theatre of Athol Fugard and Zakes Mda. From 2010-2014, she served as the program lead of the Sub-Saharan Africa unit of the Fulbright U.S. and Visiting Scholar Programs for the Institute of International Education (IIE).  

In her current role at Howard, Dr. Miller leads the Honors and Scholar Development team in co-curricular advising for honors program students and students seeking funding opportunities for study abroad, undergraduate research and international graduate studies, including opportunities through the Fulbright, Rhodes, Marshall and other competitive scholar awards. As the point of contact for endorsing national competitive scholarships, the Office of Honors And Scholar Development works closely with faculty and several university offices to ensure high quality advising and competitive scholarship applications. In addition to providing assistance for external awards, Dr. Miller’s office provides support and administrative over site of a small group of partner awards and internal scholarship initiatives.
