Biography

Tiffani I. Sydnor is a Washington, DC native production designer, scenic, and interactive media designer whose work lives at the intersection of storytelling, culture, and design. She holds an MFA in Production Design as well as a graduate certificate in Exhibit Design from The George Washington University, and a BA in both Art History and Studio Art from the University of Maryland. She is a proud member of IATSE Local USA 829.

An art educator and professional designer of over 20 years, Tiffani has designed a wide range of projects spanning film, television, theatre, exhibits, and live events. She currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Theatre Technology in the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts at Howard University, where she teaches, mentors, and designs for larger departmental productions. Her teaching and professional practice emphasize design as a form of communication, collaboration, and cultural expression.

Her recent and upcoming work includes art direction on the Netflix series The Night Agent and the Disney feature film They Fight; scenic design for the Essential Theatre production of Zora and the upcoming production of Or at Constellation Theatre; reconceiving the ICRC Digital Dilemmas virtual experience into an immersive, experiential exhibit; and set decorating for NFL Christmas on Netflix. In addition to her design work, she is an active speaker and mentor with Equity Through Design Mentorship as well as community-centered initiatives, including engagements with KCACTF and the University of Maryland Black Alumni Network in partnership with the University of Maryland Career Center.

She endeavors for her career to serve as a reflection of her experience as a Black female designer—from mentoring young designers of color, to collaborating with and growing the design community, to choosing projects that center and amplify voices of color.
