Rebecca Shipman

Archivist (Deputy Lead)

Biography

In her current role as an Archivist at the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center, Rebecca focuses on building sustainable, user-centered archival practices, from improving research access to leading digitization initiatives. Across her experiences—including fellowships with Johns Hopkins University and The Phillips Collection—she has explored innovative approaches to metadata, narrative-building, and public scholarship, with an emphasis on uncovering overlooked voices and reshaping historical narratives.

Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, magna cum laude, from Howard University and is pursuing a Master of Library and Information Science at Indiana University. Grounded in curiosity, collaboration, and care, she is dedicated to using archival work as a tool for connection, education, and cultural preservation.
