Omiyẹmi (Artisia) Green is a nationally recognized higher education leader and artist-scholar who serves as Chair and Professor of Theatre Arts in the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts, Department of Theatre Arts. With more than two decades of experience spanning teaching, scholarship, creative practice, administration, and program development, she has established herself as a leader at the intersection of Black theatre, African Diasporic performance, interdisciplinary collaboration, and institutional transformation. Green earned an M.F.A. in Theatre Education (Direction) from Virginia Commonwealth University and a B.A. in Psychology from William & Mary.

Prior to joining Howard University, Green served on the faculty of William & Mary, where she held appointments in Theatre and Africana Studies and rose to the rank of Professor. Her contributions to the university were recognized through numerous distinctions, including the William R. Kenan, Jr. Professorship, the University Professorship for Teaching Excellence, the Sharpe Associate Professorship of Civic Renewal and Entrepreneurship, the Arts & Sciences Award for Teaching Excellence, and the Plumeri Award for Faculty Excellence.

Green's research explores memory, ritual, cultural aesthetics, pedagogy, and performance. Her work has been supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities and has appeared in the Journal of American Drama and Theatre, the Journal of American Folklore, Theater: Yale's Journal of Criticism, Plays, & Reportage, the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society Journal, the August Wilson Journal, and numerous edited collections published by Routledge, Cambridge University Press, McFarland, and Greenwood. 

As an artist-scholar, her creative work spans directing, dramaturgy, film, new play development, and community-engaged performance. Her artistic practice centers Black performance traditions, African Diasporic aesthetics, and theatre's capacity to illuminate history, cultivate belonging, and foster social change. Her directing, dramaturgical, and creative projects have been presented in professional, academic, and community settings across the United States.

She is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Black Theatre Review, the only peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated exclusively to African Diasporic theatre scholarship. She has also served in numerous national leadership roles, including President of the Black Theatre Association of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education, Vice President for Professional Development of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education, President of the Black Theatre Network, and leadership positions within the August Wilson Society. Through these roles, she has helped shape national conversations on Black theatre scholarship, artistic practice, leadership development, and access in higher education.

Throughout her career, Green has demonstrated a commitment to building innovative programs and strengthening institutional culture. At William & Mary, she served as Program Director of Africana Studies, Associate Chair of Theatre & Performance, Faculty Advancement Fellow, and as an inaugural Provost Faculty Fellow. While in the Office of the Provost, she founded the Art & Science Exchange, a university-wide initiative that connects artists, humanists, scientists, and community partners through collaborative research and public engagement, and created Momentum to Full, a faculty advancement program supporting associate professors on the pathway to promotion. She has also consulted on academic leadership, faculty development, and programmatic transformation at institutions across higher education.

A visionary educator, scholar, artist, and administrator, Green is committed to advancing excellence, innovation, and opportunity through the arts and humanities. Her work reflects a deep belief in the power of theatre to cultivate creativity, critical inquiry, and cultural understanding, preparing students to create boldly, think capaciously, and produce work that honors the people and traditions that shaped them while shaping new possibilities for the future.
