Biography
Nick began working with emancipating foster care youth in 2013 co-founding Skill Builders Independent Living where he currently serves as Program Director. Committed to his new vocation, Nick returned to school after 26 years to receive his 2nd bachelors, this one in Social Work (2018). Realizing a gap in services, Nick co-founded a non-profit, Hope U Foundation, to assist disconnected youth or youth at risk of disconnection. Hope U assists youth 16 to 26, removing barriers that are preventing advancement educationally or vocationally.
Nick served as an intern for former Congressman Donald McEachin and upon completion, was offered a job serving as district representative. Understanding that Macro social work is where actual change occurs, Nick accepted this position to keep his seat at the table. Nick obtained his master’s in social work with a Clinical Concentration, from Norfolk State University (2020) and has completed his coursework for his PhD from Howard University.
In the fifth year of his program, Nick is a Teacher Assistant for an advanced policy class – Advocating for Oppressed and Marginalized Communities, and a Research Assistant for the School of Business working on a research study on the effectiveness of Black Male Initiatives.
In Spring 2024, Nick assumed the role of Program Coordinator for Howard University School of Business’ You Lead Male Initiative, where he previously held the role of research assistant. Nick provides support to all male identifying students within the school of business, with an overarching responsibility for helping freshmen males navigate their first year at Howard successfully.
