Biography

Segun Ige holds a Ph.D. in forensic and political rhetoric from the University of Natal, Durban, [renamed, the University of KwaZulu-Natal], and an MBA with a particular focus on AI Regulation and Governance from the University of the People, Pasadena, California, USA. He also completed a project management certificate program at Cornell University. Segun is a longtime editor of the African Journal of Rhetoric and Balagha: African Rhetoric Review. He is also the founder of the African Association for Rhetoric (AAR). Ige has consulted for organizations and mentored graduate students and academic staff, Ige is a passionate advocate for rhetoric in Africa and beyond. His areas of interest include rhetoric (classical and contemporary), Business Communication, Business Law and Ethics, gender, presidential rhetoric, AI governance, Ethics, Executive deliberation in multilateral organizations, and Responsible leadership. He has authored numerous academic articles in accredited, peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. He has also co-edited a book (with Tim Quinlan) entitled African Responses to HIV/AIDS: Between Speech and Action. UKZN Press: 2012 and authored a poetry volume entitled The Songs of the Times (TMI: 2021). Ige co-edited (with Gilbert Motsaathebe and Omedi Ochieng) a flagship publication in African Rhetoric, A Companion to African Rhetoric. Lexington Books: 2022. Segun teaches Rhetoric, World Literature, and Reception Studies in the Department of Writing and Literatures at Howard University, Washington, DC.
