Biography

In her role as communications specialist for the Howard University College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA), Hayya Shah undertakes a variety of responsibilities, most importantly serving as liaison for the Office of University Communications as engineering (and architecture) communications writer, webmaster, social media and marketing manager and video conferencing technical lead.

Ensuring that CEA has a robust online presence to provide recognition, marketing, publicity for and useful information to our current and prospective students, faculty and leadership is a top priority. Hayya also serves as the Dean’s communications lead, managing all internal and external communications for the Office of the Dean.

Hayya has a background in financial management and internal audit controls at the General Services Administration, communications and outreach for the Alexandria City Public Schools system, paralegal work and research in family law in Montgomery County, Maryland, and in leadership roles for the grassroots, non-profit organization Next Wave Muslim Initiative. Her educational background includes a BS in cybersecurity from the University of Maryland Global Campus, a BA in theology from Jamiat al-Zahra University and a paralegal certification with the Montgomery County, Maryland Office of the State’s Attorney via Montgomery College.

Fluent in three languages, Urdu, Persian, and English, Hayya has traveled throughout Europe and the Middle East, lived in the Middle East, and maintains a refreshing life perspective. Some of her more prominent hobbies include indulging in books on self-improvement and the human condition, authoring, running, yoga, and belly-dancing.
