Biography
Amos Nivens III is a skilled public administrator equipped with the knowledge and abilities to thrive in both the public and private sectors. He graduated from Savannah State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communications, specializing in public relations and strategic communication. He holds a Master of Public Administration from the same institution. Amos is also currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Healthcare Administration from Virginia University of Lynchburg (2026).
Amos currently serves as the Assistant Director of Experiential Education. He collaborates closely with the Director of Experiential Education to conduct quality assurance activities, ensuring that experiential sites, preceptors, and curriculum align with program standards and the School of Pharmacy’s requirements. He works jointly to design and implement programs that support student progression through the curriculum and to develop initiatives that strengthen departmental operations, providing appropriate oversight as needed. Amos serves as the initial point of contact for IPPE and APPE students and preceptors, as needed, offering guidance and support throughout the experiential process. He actively participates in the College of Pharmacy and serves on relevant committees and task forces. Amos ensures the implementation of ACPE standards across all experiential education operations and fulfills additional responsibilities consistent with his professional interests and the overall scope of his role, including other duties as needed.
Prior to Howard, Amos served as the Administrative Operations Manager for MedStar Health, overseeing educational operations for three surgical fellowship programs: Breast Surgical Oncology, Surgical Critical Care, and Colon and Rectal Surgery. Prior to his role at MedStar Health, he was involved with the Clinical Program at Emory University School of Medicine's Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, where he assisted in planning and coordinating the program's activities, monitored policy implementation, ensured adherence to budget and schedule, and supported the program’s growth and development.
Additionally, Amos has contributed to the Office of Graduate Medical Education at Morehouse School of Medicine and supported the More in Common Alliance, a $150 million initiative aimed at increasing cultural competency and expanding representation in medicine in underserved communities through various educational programs. He possesses experience with program accreditation, application processes, and evaluations.
Passionate about medical education, health business management, and overall well-being, Amos finds fulfillment in continuous learning, healthcare improvement, and the integrity that medicine embodies. He believes that critical thinking is essential in educational administration. With a strong background in interpersonal communication and leadership, he is adept at managing transformational changes in challenging environments.
Amos has experience in program development, collaborating with team members to assess departmental needs and align them with organizational goals. A visionary at heart, he enjoys building relationships, and his greatest aspiration is to inspire today’s youth.
Outside of work, Amos cherishes time spent with family and friends, enjoys long walks and jogs, and has a passion for cooking. His favorite quote is from Mahatma Gandhi: "Be the change that you wish to see in the world."
