Dr. Alyssa Small Layne, MD, FACOG is a dedicated and compassionate minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon with a strong passion for women's health. Known as a strong patient advocate, her patients often express relief, saying, “I finally feel heard.”
Dr. Small Layne specializes in robotics, laparoscopic, and vaginal surgery, with particular expertise in endometriosis excision, uterine fibroids, and fertility preservation. Her commitment to providing the highest quality care is matched by her focus on her patients' overall well-being.
She began her medical journey at Meharry Medical College, where she embraced the mission of serving medically underserved communities. She then completed her residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where her passion for surgical excellence flourished.
Dr. Small Layne further honed her skills through dual rigorous fellowships with Las Vegas Minimally Invasive Surgery through AAGL and the Center for Endometriosis Care under Dr. Ken Sinervo.
As a high-volume surgeon, Dr. Small Layne has performed hundreds of complex surgeries, helping women regain control over their lives from pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, and other challenging symptoms. Her passion for helping women improve their quality of life is central to her work.
Dr. Small Layne was recruited to Howard University, where she now serves as the Director of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and Associate Professor. She is deeply committed to teaching and training the next generation of doctors, ensuring that the quality of women's healthcare continues to thrive.
Her research is published in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, and she is a gifted public speaker who enjoys sharing her expertise.
